Scripture doesn’t just give us stories—it gives us distinctions.

One that has stayed before me is how the lions responded in Daniel 6 compared to 1 Kings 13.

▫️In one account, the lions’ mouths are shut.

▫️In the other, a lion is released to kill.

The difference was not the presence of danger.

It was the posture of the man.

CONTEXT:

▫️In Daniel 6, Daniel is confronted with a decree that directly opposes the command of God. He does not adjust. He does not negotiate. He does not quietly comply.

He continues to pray.

And when it costs him everything, the Lord upholds him.

The lions are present—but restrained.

Not because lions lost their nature, but because God honored Daniel’s alignment.

▫️In 1 Kings 13, the young prophet also receives a clear word from the Lord—and initially obeys it with precision.

But his obedience had not yet been tested by contradiction.

When an older prophet speaks something that opposes what God had already said, he yields.

Not because he lacked revelation—

but because he allowed another voice to override it.

And in that moment, he stepped out of alignment with the word of the Lord.

The outcome was not protection, but judgment.

A lion met him on the road.
